Volvo Cars and NVIDIA Expand Partnership to Advance Safe Automated Driving
16 Oct 2026

Volvo Cars has announced an expansion of its partnership with NVIDIA to advance safety in automated driving technology for future Volvo vehicles, building on a collaboration spanning more than a decade.

Combining Volvo Cars’ extensive safety expertise with NVIDIA’s Hyperion sensor and computing architecture, the technology is designed to help future Volvo vehicles navigate complex real-world environments safely, from departure to destination. Applications will range from highways and busy urban streets to parking situations.

The technology will debut in a next-generation Volvo model as part of the company’s recently announced largest-ever product launch initiative.

Volvo Cars will integrate its advanced vehicle safety systems and engineering expertise with NVIDIA’s artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated computing technologies. These include the Hyperion sensor and computing architecture, Halos OS, and Alpamayo Stack driving software.

Through this collaboration, the companies aim to establish higher standards for AI-powered automotive safety while delivering a more intuitive and effortless driving experience. The technology will gradually introduce capabilities for eyes-off and mind-off driving.

Drawing on nearly a century of real-world safety research and its human-centric philosophy, Volvo Cars aims to establish a new benchmark for automated driving that prioritizes safety, convenience, and customer trust.

“Volvo has been synonymous with car safety for almost 100 years,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars. “By working with NVIDIA, we bring together two distinct strengths: industry-leading safety knowledge and world-class AI technology. That combination gives us a unique opportunity to create safer and more attractive cars for our customers.”

“Accelerated computing has transformed the car into an intelligent machine that can understand the world around it,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Volvo has spent nearly a century protecting people on the road. Together, we’re combining Volvo’s extraordinary vehicle safety systems with NVIDIA Hyperion and Halos to build a new generation of cars that make driving safer and more effortless.”

The expanded partnership represents another significant step in the companies’ collaboration, which began in 2017. By integrating advanced computing capabilities into its next generation of electric vehicles, Volvo Cars is strengthening its position as a leader in software-defined vehicles.
