Strategic Partnership Established to Promote Cybernics Medical and Healthcare Innovation in Japan and Taiwan

On March 4, 2025, a strategic partnership was formed between the Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB), Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU), Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital, the Cybernics Research Center at the University of Tsukuba, and the signing organization, to promote Cybernics-driven medical and healthcare innovation across Japan and Taiwan.

Established in 1984 by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) through its Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), DCB is a leading research institute specializing in biologics, small molecule and botanical drugs, regenerative medicine, and technologies for preclinical testing and manufacturing. It plays a critical role in fostering cross-disciplinary innovation, expediting the commercialization of research outcomes, and bridging Taiwan’s biotechnology sector with the global market to bring transformative treatments to patients worldwide.

Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU), founded in 1925 and directly overseen by the Holy See, is a prestigious institution with strong academic influence in Europe, the Americas, and throughout Asia, particularly in private higher education.

This collaborative initiative aims to leverage Cybernics—a fusion of biological/medical sciences with AI, robotics, and information technologies—to enhance medical and healthcare capabilities in both regions. The partnership will support the introduction and social implementation of Cybernics therapies in Taiwan, including the wearable cyborg HAL®, designed to facilitate the regeneration and improvement of brain, nerve, and muscular functions. It also includes the Cyvis® series, which utilizes AI to collect, analyze, and process medical and health data in real time.

Further cooperation will extend to the utilization of the Cybernics Medical Innovation Base at King Skyfront in Kawasaki City to drive forward Bio/Medical innovation. In addition, joint research efforts and academic programs will be developed to cultivate talent and strengthen expertise in the Cybernics field, accelerating the realization and adoption of advanced Cybernics Medical Healthcare solutions in both Japan and Taiwan.
