NVIDIA and Coherent Announce Strategic Partnership to Develop Optics Technology to Scale Next-Generation Data Center Architecture
NVIDIA and Coherent Corp. have entered into a multiyear strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the development of advanced optics technologies to power the next generation of AI infrastructure.
The nonexclusive agreement features a multibillion-dollar purchase commitment from NVIDIA, along with secured future access and production capacity for advanced laser and optical networking solutions. As part of the collaboration, NVIDIA will also invest $2 billion in Coherent to strengthen its research and development efforts, expand manufacturing capacity, and enhance U.S.-based operations.
Advanced optical interconnects and package-level integration are expected to play a critical role in the evolution of AI infrastructure, enabling ultrahigh-bandwidth and energy-efficient connectivity across AI data centers. By combining NVIDIA’s expertise in AI, accelerated computing, and networking with Coherent’s capabilities in optical innovation and precision manufacturing, the partnership positions Coherent to scale both its R&D and production footprint in support of the global expansion of next-generation AI facilities.
“Computing has fundamentally changed. In the age of AI, software runs on intelligence with tokens generated in real time by AI factories for every interaction and every context,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “With Coherent, NVIDIA is pioneering next-generation silicon photonics to enable AI infrastructure at unprecedented scale, speed and energy efficiency.”
“This strategic relationship underscores Coherent’s role as a key enabler of next-generation AI data center infrastructure,” said Jim Anderson, CEO of Coherent. “We are proud to expand our 20-year relationship with NVIDIA by increasing their access to include multiple product families to help them build the AI data centers of the future.”
