YASKAWA Electric Corporation has introduced the MOTOMAN-HC35, a new collaborative robot designed to handle heavier payloads and larger workspaces. The latest model offers a 35 kg payload capacity and a 2,030 mm reach, replacing the widely used MOTOMAN-HC20DTP. Building on its predecessor, the MOTOMAN-HC35 delivers enhanced performance with a greater working envelope, increased payload capacity, and improved installation flexibility. The new collaborative robot is also designed to simplify deployment and operation, making it suitable for a wider range of industrial automation applications.


1. Purpose of commercialization


Growing labor shortages and the increasing need to handle larger, heavier workpieces have accelerated the adoption of collaborative robots across manufacturing industries. To meet these evolving demands, Yaskawa developed the MOTOMAN-HC35, offering a higher payload capacity and longer reach than its predecessor, the MOTOMAN-HC20DTP.

The new robot features a slim arm design, reduced manipulator weight, and newly developed in-house torque sensors that enhance both usability and safety. Its compact design helps save installation space while enabling faster collision detection and response.

By combining greater lifting capability with improved safety and flexibility, the MOTOMAN-HC35 is designed to boost productivity and help manufacturers reduce operating and production costs.


2. Main Features

(1) Higher payload capacity and longer reach


The MOTOMAN-HC35 offers a 35 kg payload capacity and a 2,030 mm reach, enabling it to handle larger and heavier workpieces across a wider range of factory automation applications. Its increased wrist moment capacity further improves performance in demanding tasks such as palletizing and screwdriving. In palletizing, the robot can transport heavier loads, pick multiple items simultaneously, and stack products at greater heights. For screwdriving applications, it delivers fastening torque of more than 200 Nm throughout its operating range.


(2) Enhanced Safety and Productivity


Equipped with newly developed in-house torque sensors, the MOTOMAN-HC35 delivers faster and more accurate collision detection, allowing higher operating speeds in collaborative environments while minimizing impact forces if contact with personnel occurs. The robot also features intuitive hand-guiding functionality, making programming and teaching easier while improving overall productivity and workplace safety.


(3) Superior installation flexibility


The robot's slim, compact arm design reduces interference with surrounding equipment and allows it to operate efficiently in confined spaces. Its footprint has also been reduced to 270 mm in diameter, compared to 380 mm for the MOTOMAN-HC20DTP, making it easier to install in space-constrained production environments.


(4) Built-in application cables


The MOTOMAN-HC35 comes with built-in application cables, including a Cat6A Ethernet cable, routed internally through the robot arm. This design reduces cable interference with nearby equipment while simplifying the integration of end-effectors through direct wrist connections, resulting in a cleaner and more reliable system setup.
