iRobot Corp., a leader in consumer robotics and intelligent floor care, has introduced the Roomba® Duo, its first dual-unit robot vacuum and mop, at IFA 2026. The new system takes a different approach to automated floor cleaning by addressing a common limitation in robotic floor care: wet-dry vacuums offer strong cleaning performance but typically lack autonomous navigation, while robot vacuums provide hands-free convenience without the deep-cleaning capabilities of wet-dry systems. The Roomba® Duo combines an advanced main robot that vacuums and steam-mops with an ultra-compact companion robot. Both units operate using a shared home map and an autonomous mobile dock, allowing them to work together as a unified intelligent cleaning system. This coordinated approach is designed to provide seamless and comprehensive floor cleaning across the home.


Unlock Next-Generation Floor Care with Dual-Unit Architecture


At the core of the concept is a unique capability in consumer robot vacuums: a primary robot that can carry and deploy a secondary unit. The main robot is equipped with a top-mounted mechanical arm designed to remain level as it moves, providing the stability required to safely transport the additional unit. It can then lower and release the ultra-compact companion robot, enabling it to clean tight or hard-to-reach areas that the main robot cannot access.


Connected through the Roomba® Home App and a shared home map, the two robots communicate in real time and use AI to coordinate their cleaning activities. The main unit handles large, open areas by thoroughly vacuuming and mopping, while the ultra-slim companion robot navigates beneath furniture, through narrow spaces and other hard-to-reach areas that conventional robot vacuums may overlook. By assigning different cleaning tasks to two specialized robots, the system increases overall coverage within a single cleaning cycle while delivering a more intelligent and efficient approach to automated home cleaning.


Deep-Clean Wet and Dry Messes, Without Hand Scrubbing


The main unit is designed to overcome the physical limitations of conventional robot vacuums. Its distinctive cylindrical body makes efficient use of internal space, accommodating a wet-and-dry floor-washing system, a high-performance motor and a high-capacity battery to deliver advanced floor-washing capabilities in a robotic format.


At the core of its cleaning performance is the industry-leading 60mm-diameter PowerSpin™ Max Roller Mop, which applies 46N (approximately 4.7kg) of downward pressure to scrub floors with a level of intensity comparable to manual cleaning. For dry debris, the robot delivers powerful suction to efficiently remove pet hair, food crumbs and everyday dirt.


The system also uses controlled steam as a pre-treatment to loosen stubborn, dried-on grime. An internal heater generates steam and distributes it evenly over targeted areas while minimizing excessive heat exposure to the floor. A continuously self-cleaning roller then removes the loosened dirt and sticky residues, including spills such as pasta sauce and cooking grease. Behind the roller, a hot-air drying system helps dry the cleaned surface and reduce prolonged moisture exposure, particularly on wooden floors.


This enhanced washing capability is designed to provide deeper automated floor care for busy households, including families with young children and pet owners, going beyond the cleaning performance typically offered by standard robot vacuums.


Slip Under Low Furniture, Clean Tight Corners


The companion robot, demonstrated live at the IFA booth, uses the company's Roomba® Plus 575 Combo Robot which launched earlier in 2026. It reaches the corners and edges, exactly where pet hair and debris collect. Measuring just 8.35 cm tall and 29.8 cm wide, the companion robot glides between dining chairs and cleans beneath low beds, sofas and TV cabinets, capturing dust in spaces most robot vacuums cannot enter.


The companion robot's PerfectEdge® mop pad extends by up to 31mm outward, along with extended edge sweeping side brush, cleaning automatically into corners, along walls and baseboards, even around irregular edges, to remove pet hair, dust and crumbs. With air-lift omni-wheels, it climbs thresholds up to 3.5 cm and continues cleaning in multiple rooms without getting stuck.


Navigate and Maintain with Greater Autonomy


The Roomba® Duo is designed to understand the home, navigate everyday obstacles and reduce routine maintenance through a unified system. Both units are equipped with ClearView™ Pro dual-line LiDAR and PrecisionVision™ AI to detect and move around common household objects. On top of this, the main unit features top-mounted AI cameras to capture a wider, elevated view of rooms, furniture and floor layouts. This helps the Roomba® Duo build more detailed maps across large, multi-room homes and identify larger stains or areas of debris build-up for targeted deep cleaning.


Moreover, large 17cm wheels powered by hub motors give the main robot greater stability as it moves between spaces. The shared AutoWash™ dock handles autonomous maintenance in one place. It features a centralized clean-water supply and wastewater tank, automatically washes and dries the mops, and empties collected dust into a large bag for months of hands-off use.
