Draganfly to Participate in Canadian Working Group for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems in Support of Government of Canada’s Newly Announced Defence Industrial Strategy
2 Mar 2026
Draganfly Inc., an award-winning developer of drone systems and solutions, has welcomed the Government of Canada’s newly announced Defence Industrial Strategy. As an initial step in supporting its rollout, the company will take part in the Canadian Army’s inaugural Collaborative Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Working Group, beginning Monday, February 23, in Ottawa.
On February 17, Prime Minister Mark Carney introduced a comprehensive and forward-looking Defence Industrial Strategy aimed at rebuilding, modernizing, and rearming the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). The initiative marks a strategic shift toward reinforcing Canada’s sovereign defence capabilities, strengthening domestic supply chains, and expanding local production capacity—particularly in the field of uncrewed and autonomous aerial systems.
As part of this effort, Draganfly will participate in the Canadian Army’s Minerva Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Working Group on February 23. The initiative aligns closely with the Strategy’s priorities, which recognize drone technology as a critical sovereign capability for Canada. The plan highlights the need to invest in domestic expertise and foster strategic collaboration with Canadian defence companies such as Draganfly to ensure secure supply chains, sustained innovation, and dependable in-country manufacturing for CAF requirements.
With more than 25 years of experience in drone design, engineering, and manufacturing, Draganfly is recognized as the world’s longest-operating commercial drone manufacturer. As one of the few Canadian companies with proven, field-deployed drone technologies, the company is well positioned to contribute to the federal government’s vision of strengthening national defence capabilities. The Strategy’s focus on building resilient Canadian defence competencies, enhancing industrial innovation, and prioritizing “Build in Canada” procurement signals a significant and transformative policy direction.
Draganfly intends to play an active leadership role within Canada’s defence sector and collaborate closely with the Government of Canada to enhance the country’s capacity to design, develop, and manufacture advanced drone systems domestically.
