Cognex Launches SLX-3804L for Bottom-Side Barcode Reading in Logistics
2 Oct 2026

Cognex Corporation, a global provider of industrial machine vision technology, has launched the SLX-3804L, an industrial-grade bottom-side barcode reading solution designed to help logistics operators improve barcode capture, increase throughput and reduce manual handling.

The SLX-3804L expands Cognex’s Solutions Experience (SLX) portfolio, which comprises application-specific logistics solutions designed to simplify deployment and operation while enabling automation of critical workflows and lowering total cost of ownership.

Designed for applications including induction line scanning, six-sided tunnel scanning, outbound shipping and baggage handling, the SLX-3804L can achieve read rates of up to 99.9%. Its low-profile design allows installation beneath existing conveyors, eliminating the need for costly structural modifications.

"For decades, line-scan technology has set the standard for read reliability, but it has typically required specialized expertise to deploy and maintain," said Ben Carey, Director of Product Management for Logistics at Cognex. "The SLX-3804L combines industry-leading read performance with the simplicity of the SLX platform through application-tailored, guided setup that helps operators deploy reliable bottom-side scanning and realize value faster."

Precision Bottom-Side Scanning, Made Simple

The SLX-3804L simplifies the deployment of bottom-side barcode reading with a shared web-based interface and guided installation process. By reducing setup complexity and maintenance needs, the solution helps operators deploy systems more quickly and accelerate time to value.

“With automated sortation systems, six-sided barcode scanning is essential to maintaining throughput and minimizing manual intervention,” said Monty McVaugh, Head of Product at OPEX Corporation. “The Cognex SLX-3804L has delivered a significant improvement over traditional bottom-side scanning technologies, both in read performance and ease of deployment. We were able to retrofit the solution into our existing system with minimal effort and no major redesigns. Eliminating the need for a dedicated IPC simplified our architecture and strengthened our cybersecurity posture.”

Key benefits include:

  1. 99.9% read rates for many demanding logistics applications.
  2. Simple deployment with guided setup and a common software experience.
  3. Compact under-conveyor design that can fit in tight spaces without infrastructure changes.
  4. Reduced maintenance and downtime with logistics-focused design features.
  5. Robust barcode reading through conveyor gaps as small as 5 mm.
