Cognex Launches AI-Powered Counting Tool for In-Sight SnAPP Vision Sensors New AI tool simplifies counting inspections for manufacturers across all industries

Cognex Corporation, a leader in industrial machine vision, has enhanced its In-Sight SnAPP™ vision sensor by introducing an AI-powered counting tool. This innovative software enables manufacturers to streamline tasks such as assembly verification and quantity checks, which were previously labor-intensive and prone to errors. Leveraging advanced AI technology, the tool makes it easier for manufacturers to accurately count complex part types, including items of similar size, reflective surfaces, distorted parts, and objects with varying contrasts and shapes.
Lavanya Manohar, Senior Vice President of Products, stated, "By combining state-of-the-art AI with user-friendly vision sensors, we now offer a counting solution that improves both accuracy and efficiency while simplifying operations. We're eager to see how this technology will help manufacturers worldwide and make automation more accessible."
The AI-driven tool ensures reliable identification and counting of objects, enabling consistent quality control without requiring complex programming. With image-based training, a guided setup, and embedded AI, operators of any skill level can quickly address counting tasks, eliminating the need for complicated setups or extensive training.
This tool is applicable across various industries. In the food and beverage sector, it can verify the completeness of product packaging. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can check the correct count of vaccine vials or pills in blister packs. Automotive manufacturers can use it to count modules in EV battery trays, ensuring accurate assembly and avoiding recalls.
Initially launched in September 2023, the In-Sight SnAPP vision sensor is designed to handle common quality control tasks like presence/absence detection, basic inspections, classification, and now, counting applications.
