Boston Dynamics, a global leader in mobile robotics, has announced plans to establish an advanced robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) center by transforming a 323,000-square-foot facility at Reservoir Place in Waltham, Massachusetts. Located near the company's existing headquarters, the new site will consolidate operations from three nearby facilities while expanding capabilities in advanced manufacturing, AI, research and development (R&D), and workforce training.

The company plans to invest US$100 million in the project and expects to create approximately 1,250 new jobs by 2033. Supporting the expansion, the Healey-Driscoll Administration has awarded Boston Dynamics a US$25 million grant through the Economic Development Incentive Program (EDIP). The funding will help finance facility renovations and operational expansion related to manufacturing, workforce development, and the company's Atlas, Spot, and Stretch robotic platforms.

“Boston Dynamics has called Waltham home for many years, and this expansion is a reflection of how fast our industry is moving. The investment gives our team the space and resources we need to launch our third robot platform this decade. We will continue recruiting and hiring excellent talent to lead this emerging industry and meaningfully contribute to the greater Boston business community,” said Amanda McMaster, Interim CEO of Boston Dynamics.

“Boston Dynamics has played a central role in defining the global robotics industry from right here in our state, and it’s why we wanted them to choose Massachusetts as the site of their expansion,” said Governor Maura Healey. “This investment will create good jobs, strengthen our advanced manufacturing ecosystem and ensure Massachusetts remains a global leader in robotics.”

“Companies like Boston Dynamics choose to grow in Massachusetts because of our unmatched talent, innovation ecosystem and commitment to supporting industries that will drive the future economy,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “This expansion will create opportunities for workers, support local economic growth and further establish Massachusetts as a destination for advanced manufacturing.”

“Boston Dynamics is one of Massachusetts’ most iconic innovation companies, and this project represents a major investment in the future of robotics manufacturing in the Commonwealth,” said Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley. “By bringing manufacturing, training, research and development together under one roof, Boston Dynamics is creating a hub that will help train the next generation of robotics and AI talent.”

The expansion supports the Healey-Driscoll Administration's broader economic development strategy, which includes a US$25 million investment in robotics through the Mass Leads Act, as well as a proposed US$75 million investment to accelerate innovation in applied artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technologies.

Boston Dynamics has begun a major renovation and construction project at the Waltham site and plans to relocate operations in phases starting in mid-2027. The development is being carried out in partnership with BXP, the property's owner since 1998.
