Locus Robotics, a global market leader in flexible, AI-driven warehouse automation, today announced the successful implementation of its LocusONE™ platform at bergler Industrieservices GmbH. The platform will now centrally orchestrate and manage 32 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) of the Origin type, continuously optimizing task allocation, route planning, and resource utilization to enable efficient, scalable, and data-driven picking of electrical installation materials.
bergler Industrieservices, a leading fulfillment service provider based in Erlensee, Hesse, faced specific challenges: securing a new customer required expanding warehouse space and establishing a new operational area. From the outset, it was clear that only an innovative automation solution could meet the increased efficiency requirements while ensuring flexibility for future growth.
The company automated its approximately 3,500 m² new picking area within just three months using Locus Robotics’ technologies, thereby optimizing its order picking processes. The deployed fleet of mobile robots operates under Locus Robotics’ highly flexible Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) model, which enables predictable, usage-based costs without capital expenditure. As a result, significantly faster and more precise order processing is now possible.
Greenfield installation with optimized space design
The implementation of the LocusONE™ platform was carried out as a greenfield installation, with Locus Robotics providing consulting support to bergler Industrieservices from the planning phase onward. The new facility was designed from the ground up to be fully optimized for robotic automation, ensuring maximum efficiency and seamless integration. The originally planned fleet of 25 robots was expanded by seven additional AMRs within just a few days after initial ramp-up, and these are now permanently deployed.
The rapid and successful onboarding of employees, along with the smooth rollout completed in just three months from project launch to go-live, highlights the user-friendliness and efficiency of the Locus solution. At the same time, the use of autonomous mobile robots improves workplace ergonomics, reduces the daily workload for employees, and contributes to sustainably better working conditions. Future expansions, including the automation of putaway processes, are already planned to further advance automation within the warehouse infrastructure.
“With bergler Industrieservices, we have gained a customer that demonstrates true innovation and shows how critical the right automation strategy is for sustainable business success,” said Denis Niezgoda, Chief Commercial Officer, International at Locus Robotics.
“The fact that we were able to design the new warehouse space optimally for our robotic technology from the very first planning phase makes this project a prime example of successful greenfield automation. In just three months, we proved that modern AMR technology can be implemented quickly and effectively even in highly specialized logistics environments—an important milestone for Locus Robotics’ continued expansion in Germany.”
“Our collaboration with Locus Robotics has exceeded our expectations,” emphasized Raimund Bergler, Managing Director of bergler Industrieservices GmbH. “Through their intelligent automation solutions, we were able not only to significantly increase our picking efficiency but also to noticeably improve the quality of work for our employees. The flexible scalability of the robot fleet allows us to respond optimally to customer needs—evidenced by the fact that we have permanently retained the additional robots originally planned for peak season. Investing in the LocusONE™ platform was the right step to ensure our continued success as an innovative fulfillment service provider.”
