ABB Robotics will return for a second year to the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) 2025 International Conference & Exhibition, taking place from January 25-29 at the San Diego Convention Center. ABB's participation will feature two live robotic automation demonstrations and a roundtable discussion with industry leaders such as METTLER TOLEDO and Agilent Technologies, focused on laboratory challenges and how robotics can provide solutions, on January 28.
“The growing need for improved efficiency, precision, reduced human error, and the ability to manage high-throughput workflows is driving more organizations to adopt automated laboratory solutions, with demand expected to grow at a 6.9% CAGR by 2029,” said Jose-Manuel Collados, Manager for Product Line Service Robotics at ABB Robotics. "We're excited to showcase how ABB's latest collaborative robotics innovations can create new possibilities for the 'lab of the future' at SLAS."
At Booth 2541, ABB will feature two live demos. The first will highlight the automation of various laboratory workflows in partnership with METTLER TOLEDO, a global provider of precision instruments and services. In this demo, an ABB GoFa™ 5 kg robot will interact with METTLER TOLEDO equipment via LabX™ management software, enabling integrated control of instruments like Karl Fischer Titration and UV VIS spectrophotometers. The robot will handle four typical workflows performed in R&D and quality control labs, including tasks such as handling pipettes, preparing samples for testing, and managing METTLER TOLEDO lab instruments with high precision.
In the second demonstration, another ABB GoFa™ 5 kg robot will prepare samples for tablet analysis using an HPLC system from Agilent Technologies. This demo will highlight the robot's precision and reliability in tasks like tube filter HPLC preparation and picking small tablets from a bin using vision technology. The robotic system will also automate the loading and unloading of various chemical powder dosing heads into a METTLER TOLEDO analytical balance, offering increased walkaway time and flexibility in sample preparation.
Additionally, ABB Robotics will host a roundtable discussion titled "Robotic Automation: The Gateway to the Lab of the Future." The session will feature representatives from METTLER TOLEDO, Agilent Technologies, and other companies, focusing on how robotics can open up new opportunities in the lab and address challenges. The roundtable will take place on Tuesday, January 28, from 8:30 to 10:00 am PT in room 26A at the conference venue and is open to all SLAS attendees.
