ABB Robotics sets out blueprint for physical AI education at NVIDIA GTC Berlin
“Artificial intelligence is moving beyond digital environments and into robotics and the physical systems that make, inspect, move, assemble, and maintain industry,” said Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics. “Physical AI is reshaping the skills needed in industrial environments. As we prepare for the use of these industrial-grade intelligent systems at scale, talent readiness is a key part of deployment readiness. Only with the right skills in place can the full potential of Autonomous Versatile Robotics (AVR™) be achieved.”
A white paper released alongside the program highlights findings from research conducted by ABB Robotics and NVIDIA, showing that while 53% of companies are developing AI fluency, 84% have yet to redesign jobs to incorporate AI capabilities. The paper outlines the skills and learning approaches needed to address this gap, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among academic institutions, employers, technology companies and industry organizations to establish a connected educational framework for physical AI.
ABB Robotics and NVIDIA will work together to develop an official learning program aimed at equipping the next generation of robotics and automation professionals with essential physical AI skills. The program will translate industry capability requirements into practical learning opportunities, including hands-on training with ABB RobotStudio® and NVIDIA Omniverse™. Participants who complete the program will receive a certificate in robotics, simulation and physical AI.
The white paper also incorporates contributions from Amazon Web Services, AsiaInfo, Deloitte and SKAI Intelligence, bringing together expertise across manufacturing, robotics, cloud and AI infrastructure, higher education, professional development and industry research. It emphasizes that scaling industrial physical AI requires more than investment in technology, highlighting the importance of developing skilled professionals who can turn technological potential into continuously improving production systems.
ABB Robotics and NVIDIA are also exploring a physical AI education solution that integrates practical simulation-based learning, AI development and robotics. The solution is being showcased at NVIDIA GTC in Berlin.
Following its launch earlier this year, ABB Robotics' RobotStudio HyperReality is now available to 60,000 RobotStudio users worldwide. The technology addresses the gap between simulation and real-world performance, delivering 99% accuracy for industrial customers across various industries, applications and operational scales. Developed in collaboration with Enodo Robotics, RobotStudio HyperReality combines ABB's robotics and simulation technologies with Enodo's expertise in AI-driven robotics software and the OpenUSD ecosystem, enabling greater interoperability of 3D data across design and simulation environments.
