ABB Robotics is expanding its programming and user interface portfolio with the launch of E-Device, a compact safety interface that allows customers to operate, program and monitor OmniCore-powered robots and cobots using their own tablet or PC. Built on the OmniCore User Interface (UI), E-Device provides a familiar, full-featured robot control experience while adding dedicated physical safety controls for use with tablets, PCs or traditional robot teach pendants.
“Making robots more accessible and easy to use is at the core of our journey to more autonomous and versatile robotics (AVR™),” said Marc Segura, President, ABB Robotics. "Customers are looking for ways to quickly and easily customize and build solutions that can be readily adapted and scaled as their needs change, without the need to spend time learning how to use new interfaces or programming. E-Device gives them the freedom to interact with the robots using their own tablets or computers. With a consistent user experience across OmniCore-powered robots and cobots, customers can reduce training, simplify deployment, and accelerate production ramp-up.”
The consistent OmniCore UI helps reduce training requirements and accelerate deployment across ABB Robotics’ range of robots and cobots. Customers can also access ABB Robotics’ growing portfolio of programming tools, including RobotStudio®, its offline programming and simulation software, and AppStudio, a no-code platform for developing application-specific interfaces. These tools allow users to develop, simulate and customize applications away from the production line before connecting the device to the robot, helping streamline deployment and commissioning.
Together, E-Device and the OmniCore UI provide a streamlined path from simulation to deployment. Users can create and simulate robot programs offline on a tablet or PC before bringing the same device to the production floor for deployment. The mobile interface can also be switched between multiple E-Device-equipped robots, offering greater flexibility for multi-robot facilities and training environments. By simplifying these workflows, the solution can reduce engineering and commissioning time and help accelerate production ramp-up.
Support for smart devices also enables additional capabilities for future applications. Internet connectivity gives users immediate access to online resources such as manuals, while built-in cameras can capture images for troubleshooting and save them directly to the robot’s backup folder.
E-Device incorporates the physical safety controls required for manual robot operation, including an emergency-stop button and a three-position enabling switch. The system complies with the ISO 10218:2025 safety standards and holds CE and UL certifications, supporting the adoption of next-generation safe automation.
