ABB evolves IRB 1200 family, with greater speed, precision and choice

ABB Robotics is advancing its IRB 1200 family of high-performance small robots with a new generation that offers increased speed and enhanced precision—boosting productivity and efficiency across a broad range of applications.

“With rising demand from SMEs in Asia and beyond, the need for adaptable and efficient small automation solutions has never been greater,” said Marc Segura, President ABB Robotics. “The new IRB 1200 takes efficiency and productivity even further in the most precise automation tasks.”


The next-generation IRB 1200 family is available in four variants — 5, 7, 8, and 9 kg — with the 9 kg model delivering a best-in-class payload capacity, making it perfectly suited for managing larger or heavier components.

Driven by ABB’s OmniCore™ controller, the new IRB 1200 robots offer exceptional motion control, delivering path accuracy as precise as 0.6 mm and pose repeatability down to 0.011 mm—even when multiple robots operate at high speeds of up to 1600 mm/s.

With a 5% improvement in cycle time, the new IRB 1200 series combines high precision with increased productivity, making it perfectly suited for high-throughput, complex tasks such as surface finishing, assembly, and dispensing in sectors like electronics, general industry, automotive electronics, and consumer goods.



With a more streamlined design, the new IRB 1200 allows for compact and efficient installation, increasing throughput and operational efficiency without expanding the production footprint. It’s also 20% lighter than its predecessor, reducing the need for heavy pedestal mounting and lowering energy consumption.


Powered by the OmniCore™ controller, the new IRB 1200 generation also offers user-friendly operation with full access to ABB’s growing portfolio of AI-driven software tools, including RobotStudio®, RobotStudio® AI Assistant, and AppStudio™.
